Combisafe - Safety Post
The Combisafe Safety Post is the upright component that supports the Steel Mesh Barrier in edge protection systems across construction sites in the UK and Ireland. Five variants are available: standard posts at 1.15 m (code 37101, 1.9 kg), 1.35 m (code 37102, 2.2 kg), and 1.80 m (code 37103, 2.9 kg), plus Steel Quick Release Safety Posts at 2.2 m (code 74417, 9.7 kg) and 2.5 m (code 74450, 10.5 kg). The range of heights allows the correct post to be selected for each edge protection scaffolding configuration.
Post height selection depends on the barrier height required by EN 13374 and the distance from the fixing point to the top of the barrier. For standard slab edge installations, the 1.15 m and 1.35 m posts are most commonly used. The 1.80 m and Quick Release posts are specified where the fixing point is at a low level relative to the working platform, for example when the clamp is positioned low on a beam web rather than at the top flange.
The corrosion-resistant finish on all Combisafe Safety Posts makes the posts suitable for long-duration hire contracts in exposed UK coastal and industrial environments. The multiple fixing point design allows each post to accept scaffold clamp attachments at different heights along the post body, giving site teams flexibility in positioning when the geometry of the structure does not allow a fixed-height connection. Altrad Generation supplies the full Safety Post range on hire and for purchase.

Frequently asked questions
Q: What types of safety posts are used in edge protection?
A: The Combisafe range includes standard safety posts at 1.15 m, 1.35 m, and 1.80 m, and Steel Quick Release Safety Posts at 2.2 m and 2.5 m. Standard posts are fixed into clamps, sockets, or base units. Quick Release posts include a faster-release locking feature for applications where the barrier is regularly removed and re-erected, such as at leading edges on floors being progressively concreted. All posts are compatible with Combisafe Steel Mesh Barriers and the full range of Combisafe fixings and attachments.
Q: How tall should an edge protection post be?
A: EN 13374 sets the minimum height from the working surface to the top of the edge protection barrier. The post height needed depends on the fixing point height relative to the working platform. For most slab edge applications where the fixing is at or near platform level, a 1.15 m or 1.35 m post is sufficient. Where the fixing is significantly below the working level, a taller post such as the 1.80 m, 2.2 m, or 2.5 m variant is needed to bring the top of the barrier to the required height. Your site's competent person should confirm the correct post height for each location.
Q: Can scaffold safety posts be reused?
A: Combisafe Safety Posts are designed for repeated reuse. Before returning a post to service, inspect the full length for bends, cracks, or corrosion, and check that the barrier location features are undamaged. Posts showing structural deformation or significant corrosion should be withdrawn. The corrosion-resistant finish on Combisafe posts supports long service life in outdoor UK environments, and regular inspection between hire periods is the primary maintenance requirement.
