Our Growth
Our journey began in 1978, under the banner of Generation Building Equipment LTD forming an integral part of the McAlpine Construction Empire. A decade later we evolved into Mitie Generation LTD, establishing six strategic branches in key locations: Birmingham, Leeds, Newcastle, Edinburgh, Southampton, and Northampton.
After relocating our head office to Birmingham, we achieved a significant milestone with the opening of our dedicated training centre in Wakefield, marking a pivotal moment in the evolution of the Mitie Access Division which was backed by a substantial £120 million investment.
In 2004, we underwent a transformative rebranding, emerging as Generation Hire & Sales, and in 2012, we became part of the Altrad Group, and Altrad Generation Hire & Sales was established. This marked the start of a period of rapid growth and diversification.
In 2013, we proudly launched our exports division, propelling us onto the global stage. In 2015, we acquired DESSA LTD, allowing us to supply the Uni-Roof Temporary Roof System. That same year, we achieved £80 million in turnover, further cementing our position as a market leader
More recently, Altrad Generation merged with Beaver 84 and acquired Actavo Hire and Sales, broadening our product range and strengthening our ability to support projects of any scale, location, or stage of completion.
In 2025, we expanded once again with the acquisition of Heras Mobile Fencing in the UK, a strategic move that significantly expanded our presence across the UK and bolstered our capabilities in the supply of Temporary Fencing and Steel Hoarding solutions.
Fast forward to today and our footprint has expanded exponentially, boasting an impressive network of 36 branches spanning the United Kingdom and Ireland and we continue to grow with the same commitment to quality, value, and customer service that has shaped our business for nearly five decades.
