More about Trench Sheets

Altrad Generation is a leading UK supplier of trench sheets for groundwork applications of every scale. Our trench sheeting range covers overlapping and interlocking systems, built for compliant site safety and reliable temporary earth retention. We also stock trench sheet piles for permanent structures and temporary works.

Our trench sheets are designed in line with UK temporary works requirements, so they help you deliver on site efficiency and safety without cutting corners. Whether you need a lightweight sheet for a shallow trench or a heavier profile for deep, unstable ground, you will find it in our range.

We supply two core trench sheet ranges, plus a dedicated range of trench sheet piles.

Overlapping Trench Sheets: Lightweight and easy to handle, ideal for shallow excavations and light duty applications where installation speed and cost efficiency matter most.

Interlocking Trench Sheets: Built with integrated clutch profiles that mechanically lock together, giving you superior lateral support in deeper or more unstable ground.

Trench Sheet Piles: Our Larssen range interlocks along its full length to form a continuous wall with closely fitting joints, so you can use it for permanent structures as well as temporary works.

Your trench sheets are available in multiple weights and lengths, so you can match them to your trench depth, ground conditions and load requirements. Use them alone or alongside our Props & Struts, Groundwork Boxes or Groundwork Braces, and every system is built for site safety, easy installation and long term reusability.

All our trench sheets are reusable and easy to extract, and they are built from durable structural steel. That keeps waste down and lowers your total cost of ownership across multiple projects. You can hire or buy, and trench sheet hire is available nationwide from your local branch.

Frequently Asked Questions

Q. What are trench sheets used for?
A. You use trench sheets to support the sides of an excavation and provide reliable temporary earth retention while you work. They hold back soil during utility trenching, foundation and basement excavations, slope stabilisation and temporary retaining wall work.

Q. What is the difference between a trench sheet and a sheet pile?
A. Trench sheets and sheet piles both support the sides of an excavation, but the joints work differently. Overlapping trench sheets lap over each other, while interlocking trench sheets use clutch profiles that lock together for extra lateral support. Sheet piles, such as our Larssen range, interlock along their full length to form a continuous wall, and can be used for permanent structures as well as temporary works.

Q. How are trench sheets installed?
A. You install trench sheets by driving them into the ground. A pitching shackle grips the sheet through its lifting hole so it can be lifted and driven into position, and a driving cap protects the top of the sheet during driving. Some sites use an excavator attachment for a push and dig method, which pushes each sheet in slowly and steadily to limit damage.
