Weight

4.0mm wall galvanised scaffold tube from Altrad Generation is the standard heavy duty scaffold tube specification for UK construction sites, providing greater section resistance and load capacity than 3.2mm tube for use in primary scaffold standards, ledgers, and heavily loaded scaffold structures. Manufactured to BS EN 10219-1:2006 in standard 48.3mm OD.

Available for hire and sale in lengths from 1.5m to 6.4m, Altrad Generation 4.0mm scaffold tube pairs with the complete scaffold fittings range, drop forged couplers, and scaffolding tools. Compare with 3.2mm galvanised tube and 4.0mm aluminium tube.

4.0mm Scaffold Tube Specification

  • Standard: BS EN 10219-1:2006, complies with BS 1139-1.1 for scaffold tube

  • Outer diameter: 48.3mm (UK standard scaffold tube)

  • Wall thickness: 4.0mm for maximum load capacity

  • Weight: approximately 4.37kg per metre

  • Finish: hot-dipped galvanised for corrosion resistance

  • Available in lengths from 1.5m to 6.4m

  • Available for hire and sale from Altrad Generation

4.0mm vs 3.2mm vs Aluminium Scaffold Tube

4.0mm galvanised tube provides the highest load capacity of the three tube types. 3.2mm tube is lighter for easier manual handling. 4.0mm aluminium tube offers the lowest weight at equivalent wall thickness for sites where minimal tube weight is critical. Your NASC TG20 scaffold design confirms which tube specification is required at each position.

Frequently Asked Questions

Q. What is 4.0mm scaffold tube used for?
A. 4.0mm wall scaffold tube is the standard heavy duty specification for scaffold construction on UK construction sites. The thicker wall provides greater section resistance and load capacity compared to 3.2mm tube, making it the specification for primary scaffold standards, ledgers, and heavily loaded bays.

Q. What standard does 4.0mm scaffold tube comply with?
A. Altrad Generation 4.0mm scaffold tube complies with BS EN 10219-1:2006 and is available in both Grade S355JOH (high yield) and standard grades. The 48.3mm OD and 4.0mm wall comply with BS 1139-1.1 for scaffold tube dimensions.

Q. What is the weight of 4.0mm scaffold tube per metre?
A. 4.0mm wall 48.3mm OD galvanised scaffold tube weighs approximately 4.37kg per metre, compared to approximately 3.56kg for 3.2mm tube.

Q. What lengths is 4.0mm scaffold tube available in?
A. Altrad Generation supplies 4.0mm scaffold tube in lengths from 1.5m to 6.4m. Contact your local branch to confirm current stock lengths at your nearest location.

Q. When should I specify 4.0mm tube instead of 3.2mm tube?
A. Specify 4.0mm tube for primary scaffold standards, heavily loaded ledgers, and all positions where your NASC TG20 scaffold design requires the higher load capacity of the thicker wall. Use 3.2mm tube where your design permits the lighter specification for secondary and less loaded positions.
