More about Scaffold Boards

Choosing the right scaffold board matters for safety and efficiency on any site. Altrad Generation supplies a full range of scaffold boards for sale or hire, in timber, plastic and galvanised steel. Every board meets BS 2482 or BS EN 12811 standards, with a choice of dimensions and load classes to suit your project. Whether you need scaffold planks for a short job or a long term contract, you can hire or buy from a supplier that covers the whole range.

Altrad Generation is one of the UK's leading suppliers of scaffold boards, with decades of experience supplying professionals across construction, maintenance and infrastructure projects.

Each material behaves differently under load, weather and general wear, so the right choice depends on what your site actually needs.

Timber Scaffold Boards

  • BS 2482:2009 Compliant: Timber scaffold boards meet BS 2482:2009, the British standard covering grading, dimensions and performance for construction timber. They are lightweight and cost effective, which makes them a popular choice for short term projects. The timber range is responsibly sourced under a full PEFC certificate (Licence number PEFC/16-37-2390), covering sustainability through the supply chain.

  • Material & Benefits: They are lightweight and cost-effective, ideal for short-term projects. Our Timber Scaffold Boards are responsibly sourced, and we hold a full PEFC certificate (Licence number PEFC/16-37-2390) ensuring sustainability throughout our supply chain.

  • Sizes & Load Capacity: We offer 1.2m and 1.5m support scaffold boards. 1.5m boards are designed for longer spans and heavier loads compared to 1.2m boards of the same length. These scaffold boards also known as planks provide sturdy, high-quality platforms complying with the British safety standards.

Plastic Scaffold Boards

  • Durability & Longevity: Plastic scaffold boards offer a longer lifespan than timber due to their resistance to water, decay, and various substances.

  • Material & Benefits: They are lightweight, so you can transport and install them with less effort, and they hold up well on sites where moisture or chemicals are a concern.

  • Sizes & Span: The Supadeck range comes in a 45mm by 225mm profile, in four lengths from 1.5m to 3.9m, with a clear span of up to 2.4m. Weights run from 6.15kg up to 16kg depending on length.

Steel Scaffold Boards

Strength & Durability: Galvanised Steel Scaffold Boards offer far higher load bearing capacity than timber or plastic, which makes them suited to heavy duty work.

Material & Benefits: The galvanised coating protects against rust, and the boards resist warping, cracking, rotting and fire, so they hold up in harsh weather with minimal maintenance. Steel scaffold boards meet BS EN 12811-1, and the platform measures 225mm wide by 38mm deep, in lengths from 3ft to 13ft.

Applications: This range suits industrial projects, high rise construction and other demanding environments. Steel boards are available for hire and sale, so you can choose short term hire for a single job or buy for repeated long term use.

How To Choose The Right Scaffold Boards

Here are some things to consider when choosing the right scaffold boards for your project:

  • Project Requirements: Consider load requirements, environmental conditions, and project duration.

  • Safety Standards: Ensure compliance with BS 2482:2009 for timber and EN 12811-1 for steel.

  • Budget & Lifespan: Evaluate cost-effectiveness and durability based on your project needs.
