Scaffold Tower of Support for Jason

Scaffold Tower of Support for Jason

When Jason Carey, a well-known community member and worker at CSS, was diagnosed with Stage 4 cancer, friends, colleagues, and the local community rallied around him. To show support and raise vital funds, they planned a unique challenge to build what was hoped to be the tallest scaffold tower in the UK at the summit of Pen Y Fan.

On Friday 25th July, Bristol Branch Manager, Tim Dixon, and other volunteers faced the dual challenge of climbing the highest peak in South Wales while transporting and assembling the scaffold tower at the summit. The tower wasn’t just about setting a record, it was a powerful symbol of the community standing together, showing Jason and his family that they are not alone during this incredibly difficult time. Every bolt tightened and every metre climbed represented solidarity, support, and hope.

Tim Dixon joined the effort through the Generate 365 scheme, which empowers staff to volunteer for local causes during paid workdays, supporting meaningful community projects and making a positive impact. Through teamwork, donations, and spreading awareness, the campaign grew, with the GoFundMe page surpassing £22,000 which is a testament to what a community can achieve when it comes together for a meaningful cause.

Tim's Reflection on the Day

Tim's Reflection on the Day

"I know Jason through his work with our Customer CS Scaffolding, his Diagnosis came very suddenly & completely out of the blue and when I heard about the effort to help raise money to help his family, I felt compelled to join in. Throughout the company we get to know our customers quite well & I believe its important to be part of the local community & help to give where we can.

It was nice that through the Generate 365 scheme, I was both able and encouraged to participate. The GoFundMe for Jason is currently sat at £22000.00 & although we only represent a small proportion of the total contributions, I am grateful to my colleagues within Altrad Generation who helped by making donations. Every little bit helps & the post on SharePoint certainly aided in raising awareness.

The day itself was well attended, the weather was great and there was a collective feeling that the physical sacrifice of both climbing the mountain & carrying up the kit, combined with the money raised, was a small show of solidarity with Jason and his family in what is an extremely difficult time for them"
