The Project
In partnership with Thermamech, Altrad Generation Widnes effectively supplied trench support, providing a robust and reliable solution for Groundworks. The Bradford Energy Network (BEN) Project is a transformative initiative aimed at establishing sustainable energy solutions in Bradford. With a total investment of £75 million, including £20 million from the UK Government’s Green Heat Network Fund, the project is expected to reduce carbon emissions by approximately 8,000 tonnes annually in its first phase, with a target of achieving an 85-90% reduction in emissions from buildings connected to the district heating network.
As a landmark district energy project, the BEN will become the UK’s largest Air Source Heat Pump initiative, deploying 7.5MW of ASHP to provide renewable heat. In the initial phase, the project will eliminate 25MW of gas boilers from the city centre, showcasing a significant shift towards sustainable energy sources. Additionally, the city’s iconic buildings, highlighted during the City of Culture celebrations, will benefit from a reliable supply of low-to-zero carbon heat.
