Our Base Plates are manufactured to BS1139 standards and constructed from high-grade steel with corrosion-resistant coatings to withstand demanding site conditions. The spigot, which inserts into the bottom of the scaffold tube, ensures a secure and aligned connection. Choosing the correct spigot length is crucial as it affects how much of the scaffold tube is supported by the base plate and how the load is distributed to the ground, ultimately impacting the overall stability of the scaffold. These scaffold base plates are also ideal for use on concrete, tarmac, and other firm surfaces where Standard Base Jack or Sole Pads may not be required. If you're planning a full scaffold assembly, base plates are often used in combination with Scaffold Tubes and Couplers, Base Jacks, and Sole Pads to suit uneven or softer ground conditions.

What is a scaffold base plate?

• A scaffold base plate is a flat steel fitting placed under vertical scaffold standards to distribute load and provide a stable footing on hard, level ground. It prevents the scaffold leg from penetrating or damaging the surface beneath.

What are the standard scaffold base plate dimensions?

• Our base plate dimensions are 150mm x 150mm with a central spigot designed for 48.3mm outer diameter scaffold tubes. Our plates meet BS1139 specifications to ensure compatibility and safety across UK scaffold systems.

Is a base plate the same as a base jack?

• No. A base plate offers fixed height support, suitable for level surfaces. A Base Jack (also called a screw jack) provides adjustable height for uneven ground. On softer ground, base plates are often paired with sole boards for added stability.
